High Temperature Resistant And Flame Resistant Aramid Woven Fabric

The High Temperature Resistant And Flame Resistant Aramid Woven Fabric is an industrial-grade textile engineered from synthetic para-aramid or meta-aramid fibers. This material is characterized by its molecular structure, which provides thermal stability and mechanical strength under extreme conditions. Unlike conventional textiles, aramid woven fabric does not melt or support combustion in normal oxygen concentrations, maintaining its structural integrity at continuous operating temperatures exceeding 200°C. The weaving process enhances its dimensional stability, making it a critical component for thermal barriers, protective surfacing, and structural reinforcements in high-heat environments.

High Temperature Resistant And Flame Resistant Aramid Woven Fabric
Aramid flame resistant fabric
High-performance para-aramid woven fabric engineered for continuous operation at temperatures up to 350°C with short-term exposure tolerance to 400°C. The fabric exhibits inherent flame resistance with Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of 28-32 percent and does not melt or drip when exposed to open flame. Available in plain and twill weaves with areal weight ranging from 150-450 gsm and standard widths of 100-1,600 mm. Tensile strength of 2,800-3,200 MPa with elongation of 2.5-3.8 percent. The material maintains structural integrity under thermal stress and provides self-extinguishing properties per UL 94 V-0 and FMVSS 302 standards.

Application scenarios
Firefighter PPE: Used in turnout gear, hoods, and thermal liners requiring flame resistance and heat protection in structural firefighting.
Aerospace thermal barriers: Applied in engine compartment linings, firewall insulation, and cabin interior flame-retardant materials.
Industrial safety: Used in welding blankets, furnace curtains, and protective covers for high-temperature equipment.
Automotive heat shields: Incorporated in exhaust system insulation, engine bay protection, and battery thermal management systems.
Frequently asked questions
Flame resistance vs flame retardant coating
Aramid fibers are inherently flame-resistant due to their chemical structure, meaning the flame resistance is intrinsic and permanent. Unlike coated fabrics, the flame resistance does not wash out or diminish over time, even after repeated cleaning cycles or extended thermal exposure.
Temperature limits and degradation
Continuous operation at 350°C is recommended. At 400°C, mechanical properties begin to degrade with 10-15 percent strength loss after 100 hours. Thermal decomposition onset occurs above 450°C under nitrogen atmosphere (TGA analysis).
Chemical resistance and cleaning
Resistant to most acids, alkalis, and organic solvents. For cleaning, use mild detergent and water at temperatures below 60°C. Avoid chlorine bleach or strong oxidizing agents that may degrade the aramid fibers.
Handling and processing
Cutting: Use carbide-tipped or diamond-coated blades. Aramid fibers are highly abrasive and will dull standard steel tools rapidly.
Sewing: Use PTFE-coated needles with aramid thread. Stitch density of 8-12 stitches per inch recommended for seam integrity.
Lamination: Compatible with silicone, polyimide, and PTFE coatings. Contact adhesive bonding requires surface preparation with plasma treatment.
Storage and shelf life
Store in dry, well-ventilated area at 5-30°C, RH below 55 percent.
Shelf life: 24 months from manufacture date in original packaging.
Protect from direct UV exposure to maintain color and strength properties.
