Textured carbon fiber woven fabric encompasses spread-tow, jacquard, and specialty weave constructions beyond standard plain, twill, and satin geometries. Spread-tow fabric features flattened tows with reduced crimp, providing improved mechanical properties and surface smoothness. Areal weight ranges from 80 gsm to 400 gsm depending on tow size (1K-24K) and weave complexity. The textured surface provides enhanced interlayer bonding and aesthetic depth. Tensile strength of 3,200-4,800 MPa with modulus of 220-240 GPa. Available in custom weave patterns including herringbone, basket weave, and leno constructions.

Difference between spread-tow and standard tow fabric
Spread-tow fabric uses mechanically flattened tows, reducing yarn thickness by 40-60 percent. This results in lower crimp, higher fiber volume fraction (up to 65 percent), and 15-25 percent improved tensile and flexural properties compared to standard tow fabric of equivalent areal weight.
Custom weave pattern development lead time
Custom jacquard and herringbone patterns typically require 4-6 weeks for loom setup and sample production. Existing patterns are available for immediate order. Minimum order quantity for custom patterns is 100 linear meters.
Surface finish options for textured fabric
Available with standard epoxy sizing, UV-resistant clear coat, or matte finish. Custom surface treatments including anti-fingerprint coating and hydrophobic layers available upon request.
Handling and processing
Cutting: Spread-tow fabric requires sharp rotary cutters. Dull blades may cause fiber displacement. Laser cutting suitable for thermoset sizing.
Layup: Textured surface improves interlayer adhesion. Apply 5-10 percent higher compaction pressure than standard weave fabric.
Resin compatibility: Standard epoxy sizing. Vinyl ester and polyester compatible with specialized sizing.
Storage: Store at 5-25°C, RH below 55 percent. Shelf life 18 months.
