Prepreg Carbon Fiber Cloth is a woven fabric pre-impregnated with a precisely formulated epoxy resin system under controlled manufacturing conditions. The resin content is held to a tolerance of ±2%, ensuring consistent fiber-to-resin ratio across every square meter. This eliminates the variability associated with manual resin application, delivering predictable mechanical properties and laminate quality. The cloth is supplied with interleaved release paper and is stored at low temperature to maintain handling characteristics. Available in plain, twill, and satin weaves with tow sizes from 3k to 12k and areal weights from 200 to 600 g/m². Suitable for autoclave, press, and vacuum bag cure cycles.

Recommended Cure Cycle

Phase 1: Ramp 1.5 – 2.5°C/min to 120°C
Phase 2: Dwell Held at 120°C for 30 minutes
Phase 3: Ramp 1.5 – 2.0°C/min to 180°C
Phase 4: Cure hold Held at 180°C for 60 minutes
Phase 5: Cool down ≤ 3°C/min to < 60°C before demold
Apply full pressure (5–7 bar) from the start of Phase 3. Vacuum bag pressure ≥ 0.8 bar during entire cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Thaw at room temperature (23°C) in the sealed moisture-barrier bag for 12–24 hours. Do not remove the bag until the material has reached ambient temperature to prevent condensation on the prepreg surface. Once thawed, maintain out-life tracking.

Shelf life refers to total storage time at -18°C (6 months). Out-life is the cumulative time the material is exposed to 23°C (21 days). Both limits must be respected; exceedance reduces tack and can affect cure kinetics and final laminate properties.

Yes. The prepreg can be cured in a convection oven with vacuum bag only (0.8–0.95 bar). However, autoclave pressure (5–7 bar) is recommended to achieve optimal fiber volume fraction (≥ 58%) and minimize void content for structural applications.

Exceeding out-life results in reduced tack, increased resin viscosity, and compromised surface adhesion. Mechanical properties may degrade by 10% – 15%. Consult technical support for re-qualification testing if out-life is exceeded by less than 48 hours.

Yes. Resin content can be customized from 28% to 38% by weight depending on application requirements (e.g., lower resin for high Vf, higher resin for improved toughness). Minimum order quantities apply for custom resin levels.
